Need to give you a shout out….So this quarter, I’m in theory 4, which is generally considered the “weeding out” class. And as all my classmates are panicking about modulations, I’m still scoring well on homework and tests. And someone asked me today what I did to do well on theory, and my honest answer was “I give 90% of the credit to my piano teacher, and my mother for keeping me in piano lessons.” The work we did on scales, arpeggios, chords progressions, and ESPECIALLY aural skills seemed so repetitive and unnecessary when I was younger, and now I’m seeing how valuable all that stuff really was. Thank you so much for being a great teacher, it’s making my life very easy, even years later.

Parents

I am a proud parent of a student of Karen Monroe’s piano studio and I cannot recommend her highly enough. My son Matthew has been a student of Karen’s for over 10 years. He started with her in kindergarten and she has supported and nurtured him in the love of music ever since. She partners with parents to ensure students are accountable for practicing sufficiently. Her technical teaching skills, love of music, creativity and passion for teaching has helped my son become the outstanding musician he is today.

She provides theory fundamentals lacking in other music studios which are key in becoming truly technically skilled at piano. He plays piano with the high school wind ensemble, has accompanied ensemble casts at high school plays and musicals, has accompanied other musicians, and has performed for 10 years in recitals, competitions, and adjudications. Karen has taken him from performing as a little kid in recitals and church to the representing Lewis County at the Washington State Music Teacher Associations State Playoffs recital as the winner of the 2013 Lewis County Playoffs competition. Matthew has found employment as a local church piano and organist, has played for weddings and memorial services, and will likely pursue a music career thanks largely to her teaching him.

Our experience over the last two years with Musical Note Studio has been nothing short of a blessing. Karen is the most thoughtful, thorough, soft spoken, kind and experienced piano teacher I have ever met. She doesn’t just conduct a 30-minute lesson and say goodbye-she has a structured program to teach the children everything about piano, and she teaches them to understand music. We chose Musical Note Studio because of how structured Karen’s program is, and how successful it is. Our daughter absolutely loves piano, and we hope to be a part of this studio for years to come.

Thank you so much for your positivity and flexibility to make it happen (lessons during COVID). When many of us were so overwhelmed, you were calm and had good ideas for moving forward. I know it must have been challenging for you too but you handled it so well.
